Winter is coming, so tenants should prepare to keep their homes warm, safe, and comfy. Cold air, freezing temps, and heavy snow are on the way. Taking steps now can prevent winter issues and save on energy bills. Here are key steps to take before winter hits.
Inspect & Seal: The most common reasons why heat may escapes is from drafty doors and windows. Use weather stripping or caulking to seal drafts effectively. Heavy curtains are a good way to help retain warmth throughout your suite.
Safety First: Choose rugs with non-slip backing and stock up on winter essentials like non-perishable food and medications.
Make an Emergency Kit: Stock up on essential items like flashlights, batteries, blankets, and first-aid supplies.
Ventilate To Avoid Condensation: Make sure your home always has sufficient airflow, especially in areas like kitchens and bathrooms where moisture is at a high. Use exhaust fans when cooking or showering to lower moisture levels. If your apartment has windows that can be opened, consider doing so for short periods to let fresh air in while maintaining the indoor temperature.
Use a Boot Tray: Keep a boot tray near your apartment entrance to prevent snow, salt, and slush from being tracked inside. This will help keep your floors clean and dry and avoid the warping due to wetness or the staining of carpets.
Stay Informed: Monitor weather forecasts and adjust your schedule to avoid being outside during the coldest hours.
Preparing ahead for the cold season is crucial to ensure your comfort and safety. By following these steps, you can create a warm and inviting environment that will keep the chill away.

One of the main reason why you may feel cold is due to moisture, from wet hair or sweat. When stepping out into the cold snowy world make sure your gear is dry and bonus points if they are freshly warm out from the dryer.

Move in season has begun and we know how stressful it can be even when the sun is shining and warm. We wanted to ease the stress as much as we can, so here are some tips you can use if you’re new to renting or even a vet and want some tips.
Measure Spaces – Before moving in measure your new space and doorways to see if your furniture will fit. There are many instances that a doorway may look big enough, but turned out to be a couple inches too short. Therefore it is also a good idea to makes sure that whatever you are trying to move will fit so no one is stressed.
Check Utilities – Our properties don’t all have the same exact suite amenities. Some include heat and water. Others include all utilities, it’s a good rule to make sure they all work efficiently and to contact your caretaker or a third party if otherwise.
Review Lease – Reviewing the details of the lease helps you, as the renter, understand what you can and can’t do in your unit. Are pets allowed, smoking, wall art, renos? Check the lease agreement or ask your caretakers.
Explore Amenities – Water, heat, hydro. etc. are all important and should be considered first. You never know is your building has a gym, patio, common room and so on if you don’t explore. Take advantage of these amenities if you are someone that likes to entertain or like staying in.
Security Measures – Familiarize yourself with your building’s security features. Whether it is a key, fob, app or code, it’s important to ensure you know the ins and outs. As you never know what can happen.
Packing – When packing if you have clothes on the hangers keep them on there are put a trash bag over it, it will make unpacking easier and faster. For fragile items such as plates, use your clothes and fold the plates in between. This helps reduce any additional costs to protect your delicate item and the number of boxes being used.
We hope that these tips and tricks can help you make moving in much easier, quick and painless.
Spring is in the air
Happy Earth Day! We celebrate every year to remind ourselves how fragile our planet is and to protect it as best as we can. Here are some ways we can contribute to help keep our planet clean.
1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Being mindful about your waste all year round, whether it be from reducing your use of one-time-use plastic or taking a reusable water bottle with you around town. This practice can reduce waste in the landfills.
2. Cutting down on carbon emissions Depending on where you live and ability you can opt with walking, biking, bus or utilize our Peg City Car Co-op program. Taking these measures can help reduce carbon coming into the air, and can help reduce your spending on transportation.
3.Awareness and education Keeping up to date with environmental issues will help us stay mindful of the emissions we produce individually and spreading awareness to others too.
4.Converting to LED bulbs LEDs are energy efficient, last longer and generate less heat, using on average 90% less energy than traditional incandescent lights. Not only are LEDs good for the planet, it is also beneficial for our own health.
As individuals there are so many ways we can help to keep our home healthy. On Monday April 22 let us take some time to help our planet.
